Mountain Schools Ranked Well

by Margaret Stapleton

My clients moving to Evergreen, Colorado and the mountain suburbs often ask about the public schools here. Understandably, they want to know what kind of public education mountain schools offer. Well, this week US News and World Report issued their highly respected ‘Best High Schools’ report. Over 23,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia were considered in the rating process. High school ranking also usually reflect, to some degree, how good the lower grades schools are also.

Evergreen and Conifer High Schools

Jefferson County Schools did exceptionally well. 16 of the top 100 schools on the country are in the Jefferson County R-1 District. The really great news is that Evergreen High School and Conifer Senior High School ranked #15 and #16 respectively. Both schools have graduation rates of 95%, both offer Advanced Placement coursework and exams. Evergreen High School has AP participation rate of 70%. Nearby Conifer High has AP participation rate of 68%.

One of the most important considerations for every home buyer is the quality of the schools within the district. Even if you don’t have young children, your home will have greater value if you are in a great school district. This factor is an important standard when we talk about “Location-Location-Location.

Denver Relocation Buyers Want Great Schools

This week I started working with a young couple from the Atlanta area. A recent job opportunity required relocation to the Denver area. They are not familiar with the area. Driving around from east to west/north to south confused them even more. They needed and wanted some direction and methods for refining their search.

The most important criteria for this couple was the quality of elementary schools in the west metro areas. We were able to highlight several neighborhoods that met their needs. Then, using ‘GreatSchools.org’ they could sort schools by ranking. This method has saved them lots of time in narrowing down schools. Of course, the Denver metro area has numerous excellent K-12 schools.

How to learn about Mountain Neighborhoods

Having lived in the Denver area for many decades (I don’t think I’ll tell you how many), I’ve lived all over the metro area. I have lots of personal experiences interviewing school principals, teachers, coaches, and neighbors about the quality of teachers and the learning environment. My favorite method of helping a buyer feel comfortable with a short list of schools/neighborhoods is to plan meetings with school officials, teachers, and other parents. That way, buyers can quickly get a comfort level with the attitudes and environment of each school. Lastly, I ask buyers to spend time in the neighborhood coffee shop, restaurants, and other public spots. Getting a chance to meet the neighbors before you move in is a great way to narrow down the search.

After, when out-of-town relocation buyers buy a home, they are buying more than just a house. They are buying a neighborhood and the schools too. I’d love to help you get more familiar with my home town of Evergreen, Colorado and the surrounding mountain suburbs. Just contact me on the form below.

I offer many specialty services for both Buyers and Sellers. Sellers, ask me about my 5 Methods for Accurate Pricing. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
